UHire Motorhomes FAQ 2018
What are the collection and return times?
We try to be flexible and will try our best to fit in with your plans as much as we can (same day handovers permitting). The normal policy is for collection after 10 am and return by 2pm.
SUNDAYS WE ARE CLOSED for collection and Returns.
On days on which we have more than 2 Motorhomes being collected, we will have to stagger the collection times based on the date booked.
Whilst we will try our best to get you out in your Motorhome before 11am please understand this may not be possible at busy periods.
How long will a motorhome handover take? / How will I remember how everything works?
If this is the first time you have hired a Motorhome it can seem trifle daunting but there is no need to worry as everything is very easy.
We’ll spend plenty of time demonstrating and explaining how everything works (Please allow up to 1 hour) to make sure you feel comfortable with all the controls & procedures.
All our Motorhomes are up to the minute and extremely user friendly.
Don’t worry if you think you might not be able to remember it all as your Motorhome will also be equipped with the Owners manual and a summary of all the main instructions.
Will my normal driving licence be OK to drive a Motorhome?
All drivers of our motorhomes must be over 25 years of age and up to 79 and have held a Full licence for at least 2 years with up to 6 penalty points.
A standard Full UK driving licence is all you need to be able to drive one of our Motorhomes.
You will have to let us know if you have any penalty points or convictions on your licence.
We allow people to drive with up to 6 points for speeding on their licence but can speak to the insurance company to see if they will make exceptions, This may make the excess higher but we will confirm this before booking.
Read more guidance from the DVLA on driving Motorhomes.
Can I go abroad/anywhere in the Motorhome??
We do not allow our Motorhomes to travel outside of the UK and they are each fitted with a Tracker to prevent this.(Northern, Southern Ireland is allowed)
The Motorhome is only permitted to be driven on made up (Tarmac/bitumen surfaced roads).
It must not be driven off road. Remember the Motorhome is much higher than a normal car, so you won’t be able to go into some height restricted areas such as some car parks.
We have Motorhome specific Sat-Navs available as an option to help with this as they will use Motorhome Friendly roads.
How much fuel will the motorhome use? / What mpg can I reasonably expect?
All of our Motorhomes use diesel fuel.
Manufacturers of Motorhomes and the vehicles on which they are built are not required to publish fuel consumption figures in the same way as car manufacturers.
You can reasonably expect to get an average of around 25-30 mpg.
Our own experience and feedback from our customers suggests that this is about right if the vehicle is driven normally. Of course the faster you drive a Motorhome the worse your fuel economy will be.
Will the Motorhome be cold inside in Winter??
All of our Motorhomes are designed and built for year round use.
Our Motorhomes are Grade 3 insulated that means built to European standards for winter.
They have insulation in the floor, walls and ceiling, double glazed windows, plus warm air central heating throughout the Motorhome which operates via either electric hook-up, LPG gas or a diesel heating system.
Can I hire for long term? / is short term hire available?
UHire motorhomes will allow you to hire for any length of time between our minimum hire period of 3 nights (5 Nights in High Season) to as long as you like.
Our price list includes a discount if you hire a Motorhome for a week or more.
If you require more than 3 weeks, depending on the time of year when you hire we can negotiate an even better price for you, So if you are thinking of heading off on that tour around the UK you have been promising yourself, please contact us direct, for an affordable quote.
If you hire a Motorhome we can offer a Valet on your car for a charge of £60 which will be done for you before your return.
What are the opening hours of UHire motorhomes??
We are open 7 days a week 9-5.30 pm Monday –Saturday & 11-3pm Sunday
Sundays are for enquiries only, We are closed for Collections or Returns.
When returning a Motorhome it will be expected to be back by 2pm so we have time to do the handback process. If you are late then the Motorhome is not insured as your insurance only lasts for your declared Hire period.
Where can I park my car while I am away??
You are very welcome to store your car (At your own risk) in our secure yard which has security locked gates, the perimeter Alarm is linked to a security firm & Police monitoring system and has 24hr CCTV.
Can you deliver the Motorhome??
Unfortunately we cannot deliver our Motorhomes, they do need to be collected from our premises, however we are happy to collect you from our local railway station (Knaresborough) with prior arrangement.
Are Airport Pick-ups and Drop-offs Available??
Subject to prior arrangement we would be happy to pick you up from Leeds-Bradford Airport and drop you off at the airport at the end of your holiday, provided your flights arrive/depart during normal UHire opening hours.
There will be a charge for this service. Please contact us to discuss the options and we will try to help.
Where can we stay overnight in the Motorhome??
The beauty of a Motorhome is that it is fully self-contained and you can travel from place to place without being tied to one spot.
Please make sure you park the motorhome in a safe spot and in a place where it is not likely to be damaged from people/cars trying to get past. If you’d like specific facilities such as a children’s play area, laundry, and the opportunity to fill the fresh water tank then take the time to choose campsites before you start your break.
Your Motorhome is equipped with a ‘Big Book’ of hundreds of Camping and Caravanning Club campsites throughout the UK to choose from. In high season (particularly during the school holidays) we would recommend booking campsites in advance to avoid disappointment.
See our page of useful links for campsites, places to visit, freedom camping and more.
What are the speed limits of a Motorhome??
Built up areas = 30mph
Single carriageways = 50mph
Dual Carriageways = 60mph (unrestricted)
